Holmberg picks up third win in 5-4 win over Red Sox

LOUISVILLE, Ky - David Holmberg (3-3, W) earned his third win as the Louisville Bats (22-22) took game four of the series, 5-4 over the Pawtucket Red Sox (24-21) and moved to .500 on the season. Last time the Bats were at .500 was April 22nd.

The Bats got on the board in the bottom of the first with a shot to left field by Steve Selsky for a RBI double, which extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He brought in the center fielder, Yorman Rodriguez who got on base with a single.

Holmberg continually threw well and his team backed him up adding two runs in the third inning. Ramon Cabrera led off with a single and scored on Hernan Iribarren's RBI triple. Rodriguez notched his second single of the game pushing across another run for the Bats, they led the Red Sox 3-0.

Chris Dominguez knocked his third one of the season out of the park with a solo home-run in the fourth inning that gave the Bats a 4-0 lead. Pawtucket turned around and scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth with a RBI single by Humberto Quintero.

Left-hander Holmberg went six and two thirds innings, he gave up five hits, just one earned run, one walk, and struck out six in his third win. Relieving Holmberg was right-hander Pedro Villarreal, he stranded both runners on base in the seventh.

The left-hander Brian Johnson (5-3, L) took the loss after going seven innings, he gave up eight hits, four earned runs, and had seven strike-outs.

The Red Sox's Allen Craig pushed across a run that cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth inning, but in the bottom half Rodriguez went yard with his fifth of the season. The Bats jumped back out to a three-run lead.

Pawtucket did not go down quietly as Luke Montz hit a two-run homer off of righty Carlos Contreras to put the Red Sox within one. That was not enough as Drew Hayes came in to close the door and earn the save for Louisville with a 5-4 win.

After today's game, Selsky is 17-44 with RISP, he went 2-for-4 with one RBI leading the team with 19. The Bats take three of four games, this is the first time since 2008 that Louisville has won a home series over Pawtucket.

Tomorrow the Bats will start their first game of a three game series with the Toledo Mud Hens. The probable pitchers for the 4:05 p.m. start is right-hander Jon Moscot (6-0) and right-hander Thad Weber (3-3).
