Bats downed by Clippers, 12-4

COLUMBUS Oh.- The Louisville Bats (46-51) gave up five runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth as the Columbus Clippers (53-43) cruised to an easy win in game one of a four-game split series at Huntington Park by the score of 12-4.

The Bats got an early lead in the third inning after Chris Dominguez got a leadoff single, followed by a Chris Berset single, a sacrifice bunt by Hernan Iribarren and a RBI ground out by Irving Falu. 

Columbus answered back in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff walk was issued to Jesus Aguilar, Aguilar then moved to third off of a double by Lonnie Chisenhall. Aguilar then scored from third off of a sacrifice fly by Jerry Sands.

The game started to get away from the Bats in the fifth after Columbus picked up five runs in the frame. Four runs came from a Aguilar grand slam to center field. Columbus added six more in the sixth inning which was highlighted by a two-run homer by Adam Moore to give Clippers a commanding eleven run lead.

Late in the game, the Bats had three solo home runs. Dominguez in the seventh, Falu in the eighth, and Yorman Rodriguez in the ninth but ultimatley the Bats would not be able to comeback. 

Offensively for the Bats, Dominguez led the way going 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. 

Donn Roach (L, 0-1, 12.46) suffered the loss in his Bats debut. Roach threw four and one-thirds innings. He gave up eight hits, six earned runs, and two walks while striking out one. 

Jarret Grube (W, 4-0, 3.81) picked up the win for Columbus. 

Louisville will play game two of the four-game split series against Columbus tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Huntington Park.
