Isotopes Beat Fresno As Story Goes 4-for-4

September 1, 2015

NEED TO KNOW: Shortstop Trevor Story turned in a 4-for-4 evening as the Albuquerque Isotopes (60-78) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (80-56) 3-2 Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, CA. Story drove in a pair of runs and scored another to provide all the Isotopes offense.

THE TURNING POINT: Rafael Ynoa and Angelys Nina led off the game with back-to-back singles. After two failed bunt attempts, Trevor Story pulled his bat back and roped a two-RBI triple to the center field wall, giving the Isotopes a 2-0 lead. Just a few pitches later, Story scored on a wild pitch, giving Albuquerque a 3-0 advantage, and that was all it would take behind Topes starter Aaron Laffey. The left-hander allowed just a single unearned run in the third. Fresno added another run in the eighth off Albuquerque's bullpen, but the Topes closed the door for a 3-2 victory in the ninth.

STORY TIME: Shortstop Trevor Story did what he does best Tuesday night - hit. Story finished the game 4-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. He now has hits in six of his last seven games. During those seven games, Story is now 12-for-28 with seven runs scored, two doubles, two triples and seven RBI, including a two-RBI walk-off single last homestand.

SHAKE THAT LAFFEY TAFFY: Isotopes starting pitcher Aaron Laffey turned in a strong outing on the mound, allowing just two hits over his final five innings. The left-hander scattered just four hits overall in his seven innings of works and surrendered just one unearned run. His only run scored after back-to-back two-out singles in the second followed by a wild pitch. Over his last four outings, Laffey has tossed 22 innings, giving up just two earned runs.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Grizzlies will play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. MT. Right-handed pitcher Eddie Butler (2-4, 5.26 ERA) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while Fresno is currently slated to go with left-hander Luis Cruz (6-5, 4.58 ERA) on the mound.

IN THE HOLE: After this four-game set with Fresno, the Isotopes will wrap up the 2015 season with a four-game series at the Sacramento River Cats.
