Isotopes Extend Winning Streak to Six at Las Vegas

April 18, 2016

The Albuquerque Isotopes (11-6) extended their winning streak to six games with a 5-4 victory over the Las Vegas 51s (6-9) tonight at Cashman Field.

The 51s struck early in the contest by scoring three runs in the first inning off four hits. The Isotopes responded with one run in the second thanks to Joey Wong's RBI single.

Jeff Bianchi delivered a RBI single of his own in the sixth to cut the 51s' lead to 3-2. Pinch-hitter Tim Smalling followed Bianchi by driving home two runs on a fly ball that was mishandled by Las Vegas' center fielder Brandon Nimmo to put Albuquerque ahead 4-3.

The 51s knotted the score up at four in the seventh on Nevin Ashley's RBI single. The tie was short-lived though as the Isotopes scored one run in the eighth on a Las Vegas wild pitch that brought home Stephen Cardullo.

Reliever Nelson Gonzalez earned his first win of the season, while Simon Castro picked ups his second save on the mound. Colorado Rockies catcher Nick Hundley began his rehab assignment tonight with the Isotopes going 0-for-2 with a walk.

The Isotopes will continue their series against the 51s tomorrow afternoon. Right-hander Jeff Hoffman (2-0, 1.62) will make his fourth start for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas will send right-hander Rafael Montero (0-0, 1.80). First pitch from Cashman Field is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
