Bats lose to the Norfolk Tides, 8-0

LOUISVILLE, KY. - The Louisville Bats lost to the Norfolk Tides 8-0 Tuesday evening to square the series. The Tides scored four runs in the sixth inning, with three of them coming from a double.

Right-hander Josh Smith (2-2, 2.48) took the loss for Louisville. Smith pitched five innings allowed eight hits, five runs, three walks, and struck out two. Norfolk right hander Ariel Miranda (1-1, 3.33) claimed the win.

Norfolk struck right away center fielder Xavier Avery scored from third just two batters in to the game. The Bats escaped the inning with a double play and a strike out, but the Tides lead 1-0.

The Tides continued to add to their lead in the third with a single to center field by right fielder Dariel Alvarez that scored Avery increasing Norfolk's lead to 2-0.

First baseman Steve Selsky doubled to left field to get Louisville going in the fourth, but he was stranded at third and the score remained 2-0 in favor of the Tides.

In the fifth, Smith walked left fielder Henry Urrutia with the bases loaded, scoring the third run for the Tides to put Norfolk up 3-0.

Norfolk broke the game open in the sixth inning with a three run double by Alvarez, part of a four run inning, to bring the score to 7-0 in favor of the Tides.

Norfolk brought in another run with a single by Alvarez to bring Norfolk's lead to 8-0 in the eighth.

The Bats will attempt to win the series tomorrow with right-hander Robert Stephenson (2-1,1.50) taking the mound. The Tides will counter with right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne (0-4,5.40). First pitch will be at 11:05 a.m.
