Bats win 12 inning marathon at Gwinnett, 9-8

LAWRENCEVILLE, G.A.- The Louisville Bats won their third game in a row and the opener of their three game set at Gwinnett, 9-8 in 12 innings. The game featured six lead changes and was the Bats' longest timed game this season.

Louisville's right-hander Rookie Davis (0-0, 13.50) made his first Triple-A start and pitched four innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, one walk, and striking out three.

Bats right-hander Matt Magill (3-1, 4.63) pitching two innings, allowing two hits, one run, one walk, and striking out two. He earned the win after pitching the 10th and 11th innings.

Right hander Stephen Johnson earned his first save of the season, pitching the 12th inning, walking three.

Gwinnett's right-hander Carlos Portuondo (1-1, 1.59) started and pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one run, and one walk.

The Bats were first on the board when an RBI double by Jose Peraza scored Beau Amaral to put the Bats up 1-0 in the third.

Louisville scored another run with a sacrifice fly by Hernan Iribarren to score Amaral to put the Bats ahead 2-0 in the fifth.

The Braves got their first run of the night in the fifth with an RBI single by Daniel Castro scoring Blake Lalli. The Braves added two more runs in the inning to give them the 3-2 lead.  

The Bats tied up the game in the sixth with an RBI single by Beau Amaral to put the score at 3-3. Louisville score three more times in the sixth to put their lead to 6-3.

Gwinnett's Sean Kazmar hit a two run home run in the seventh, but the Bats remained in front, 6-5. The Brave later in the seventh tied up the game with an RBI double by Mel Rojas Jr.

Louisville retook the lead in the eighth with an RBI single by Seth Mejias-Brean to bring in Peraza to put the Bats ahead 7-6.

The Braves tied the game at 7 in the ninth when Louisville's right-hander Kevin Shackelford walked Matt Lipka with the bases loaded.

The Bats retook the lead in the 11th with an RBI single to bring in Kyle Waldrop to put the score at 8-7.

Gwinnett tied the game at 8 in the bottom of the 11th with an RBI by Lalli.

Louisville's Jesse Winker hit an RBI single to score Amaral to put the Bats up 9-8 in the 12th, and Johnson held on for the win, their 59th of the season.

Louisville looks to win their 18th series of the season tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. The Bats will send right hander Robert Stephenson (6-9, 4.36) to the hill, while the Braves will counter with righty Matt Wisler (1-1, 3.21)
