Five-run 9th erases Bats shutout, 5-2

August 15, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS, In.- The Louisville Bats watched the Indianapolis Indians walk-off in the first game of the three-game series at Victory Field on Monday night with a victory, 5-2. The Bats have now totaled 12 last at-bat losses.

A ninth inning grand slam for the Indians spoiled left-handed pitcher Amir Garrett's (7-7, 3.24) victory, handing him the no decision. His seven innings of work are a season high. He threw 109 pitches, 71 for strikes, and allowed just six hits, and two walks, along with striking out five.

The Bats two runs both came by the way of RBI singles. One of those hits extended catcher Chris Berset's hitting streak to five game, while the other made it the fourth straight game that first baseman Hernan Iribarren drove in a run.

The loss was handed to right-handed pitcher Kevin Shackelford after he allowed five runs in the bottom of the ninth, four coming via the grand slam. The Indians comeback spared right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams' (7-6, 2.88) of the loss, after he allowed the two runs the Bats scored in five innings of work. His line is concluded with seven hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

Right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson earned his second victory of the year.

Tomorrow night, the Bats will send right-handed pitcher Tim Adleman (3-1, 2.38) to the mound to face a pitcher that has yet to be determined for the Indians at Victory Field for what is set for a 7:05 pm start.
