Murphy, Barnes Power Isotopes to 6-4 Win

August 24, 2016

After a spectacular catch in the top of the 10th inning, Brandon Barnes connected on a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame to send the Isotopes to a 6-4 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies. The win completes the fourth series sweep of the season for the Isotopes.

Barnes' home run may have capped off the night in the 10th, but Tom Murphy's power enabled the Isotopes to get to extra innings. The backstop connected on two home runs on the night, a two-run shot in the fourth and a solo homer in the sixth. They were team-leading home runs 18 and 19 for Murphy on the season. The 25-year-old is now .468 (59-for-126) since July 1.

Isotopes center fielder Raimel Tapia also drove home a run tonight, singling home Rafael Ynoa in the third inning.

Albuquerque starter German Marquez went 5.2 innings on the hill, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out six. He ultimately ended up with a no-decision.

The Isotopes victory, coupled with a loss from the El Paso Chihuahuas, moves the Isotopes to 4.5 games out of first place in the Pacific Southern Division.

The pennant race will be in full swing tomorrow when El Paso visits Isotopes Park to open up a five-game series with the Isotopes. Left-hander Harrison Musgrave (8-6, 4.42) will get the start for Albuquerque. The Chihuahuas will counter with righty Bryan Rodriguez (4-6, 6.35). First pitch from Isotopes Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
