Isotopes Take First Game of Doubleheader in Salt Lake 1-0

August 31, 2016

The Isotopes (67-70) won the first game of their doubleheader in Salt Lake tonight 1-0 over the Bees. The shutout victory was Albuquerque's sixth of the season.

Both offenses were held scoreless through the first five inning of the contest. Isotopes starting pitcher Shane Carle yielded four hits and walked three batters during his four innings on the mound.

Brandon Barnes broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning with an RBI double to center. Relievers Sam Moll and Brian Schlitter pitched three shutout innings to end the game and seal the victory for the Isotopes. The win was Moll's third of the season, while Schlitter picked up his seventh save.

Mike Tauchman extended his career-high hitting streak to 19 games in his final at-bat of the game with a single to left field in the seventh inning. Tauchman is now two games away from the tying the record for the longest hitting streak in Isotopes history, set by Jerry Sands in 2012.

The Isotopes will play the second game of their doubleheader tonight at Smith's Ballpark, turning to starter Eddie Butler (7-2, 4.64). Salt Lake will counter with right-hander Troy Scribner (3-6, 3.96).
