Dodgers' Cesar Izturis Scheduled To Join 51s on Major League Rehabilitation Assignment

May 31, 2006
LAS VEGAS: Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Cesar Izturis is scheduled to join the Las Vegas 51s for a Major League rehabilitation assignment beginning on Thursday, June 1. Las Vegas is currently hosting the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's, in the middle of an eight-game home stand at Cashman Field. The last three games of the series are Wednesday-Friday, May 31 - June 2 with all games at 7:05 p.m.

Izturis the Gold Glove Shortstop began his ML rehab assignment a few days ago in Vero Beach, Florida. He was named to the 2005 National League all-Star team and appeared in 106 games and batted .257 (114-for-444) with 19 doubles and 31 RBI. He had his season cut short after being diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in his right elbow which required season-ending Tommy John surgery on Sept. 16, 2005.

Izturis would become the third Dodger player to join the 51s for a Major League rehabilitation assignment this season. The other two were first baseman Nomar Garciaparra from April 20-21 and right-handed pitcher Eric Gagné from May 26-29.
