Will On Full Display In 7-6 Win Over Greensboro

September 4, 2015

ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists had to overcome a pair of deficits on Thursday night when facing the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Despite trailing by multiple runs on two separate occasions, the Tourists put together just enough offense to end up with a 7-6 win over the Grasshoppers.

Greensboro took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the second inning. The runs were allowed by Tourists' starter Jesus Tinoco; who previously had not allowed a run in his last 23 innings pitched. However, the Grasshoppers lead was short lived.

In the bottom of the third, the Tourists mounted a rally against Grasshoppers' starter Michael Mader. Cesar Galvez and Wes Rogers hit back-to-back one out singles. Two batters later, Shane Hoelscher worked a walk to load the bases. Dom Nunez stepped into the box and Asheville's clean-up hitter did exactly that with a Grand Slam to right field.

The visitors managed to take advantage of Tinoco again in the sixth. Taylor Munden blasted a two-run Home Run to left and Rony Cabrera made it back-to-back Home Runs with a solo shot. With the Tourists trailing 6-4, they brought in Yoely Bello who pitched nearly three innings in relief of Tinoco.

In the bottom of the seventh Asheville loaded the bases once again. Hoelscher stepped to the plate and ripped a game-tying two-run single to right. Forrest Wall then scored on a wild pitch to give the Tourists a 7-6 lead.

Josh Michalec entered the game for Asheville with two runners on and two outs in the top of the eighth. The Tourists closer induced an inning-ending groundout off the bat of John Norwood and followed that up by pitching a scoreless ninth.

The save was Michalec's 30th of the campaign. He becomes just the third Tourists pitcher ever to record at least 30 saves in one season. Asheville and Greensboro are back at it on Friday night's with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
