Bridwell outduels Copeland in Bees' 1-0 shutout

Parker Bridwell and two relievers combined to face the minimum as the Salt Lake Bees blanked the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Bridwell allowed just a leadoff single to center by Matt Juengel in the third inning, but recovered to induce a double play from Peter Mooney on the next batter, and went on to retire the final 14 Baby Cakes he faced.
Eduardo Paredes pitched a flawless eighth inning, and Damien Magnifico was perfect in the ninth to secure his first save.
Acquired by the Angels after being designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles, Bridwell (2-0) has allowed only three hits in 12 scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts and one walk in his first two starts with Salt Lake.
'Cakes starter Scott Copeland matched zeroes with Bridwell until the sixth, when Shane Robinson ripped a one-out single to right and Kaleb Cowart followed with a double over the head of center fielder Isaac Galloway, who broke in momentarily upon contact.
Cowart was thrown out attempting for a triple on the play, but not before Robinson scored the game's lone run.
Copeland (3-4) turned in the longest start of the season by a Baby Cake, working 7 2/3 innings and scattering seven hits. He struck out six and walked three.
After getting shut out for the second time in the last eight games and the third time this year, New Orleans has fallen a season-high 12 games below the .500 mark.
