On the heels of a weekend power surge in Reno, the Pacific Coast League has named New Orleans Baby Cakes outfielder Isaac Galloway its Hitter of the Week for May 8-14.
Galloway slugged five home runs in a four-game series in Reno, including two-homer efforts on Thursday and Sunday. The 10-year pro had just one prior multi-home run game in his career. Galloway hit safely in all five games during the week, going 10-for-24 with a league-leading 10 RBI along with eight runs scored and a stolen base. He has hit safely in nine of 10 games since returning to New Orleans on May 2 from a stint with Double-A Jacksonville, where he batted .405 in 10 games.
Galloway has been in the Marlins organization for his entire 10-year career after being selected in the eighth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga. He has spent parts of each of the last three seasons in New Orleans, hitting .255 with 24 home runs and 96 RBI in 275 games.
New Orleans had just one Hitter of the Week over the previous five seasons, when outfielder Jake Marisnick earned the award in July 2014.
Tacoma right-hander Ryan Weber was named PCL Pitcher of the Week after limiting the Baby Cakes to three hits in seven scoreless innings on May 8 to lower his ERA to a league-best 0.85.
The Baby Cakes open an eight-game homestand Monday at 7 p.m. against the Salt Lake Bees. Tickets are available at the stadium box office, online via Ticketmaster or cakesbaseball.com, or by calling (504) 734-5155.
