A slow offensive day plagued the Beloit Snappers (36-41) in their 4-1 loss to the Peoria Chief (45-33) Thursday evening at Pohlman Field in front of 762 fans.

With the Snappers trailing by just one run in the seventh and the Chiefs up to bat with a runner on third, Chiefs top hitter Elehuris Montero belted a two-run homer to left center field to push the lead to 4-1. It was Montero's ninth home run of the season and his 45th and 46th RBI.
With the Snappers trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, Snappers second baseman Ryan Gridley hit his first home run of the season to tie the game 1-1. Gridley had one of his best games of the season, going 2-for-3 with a single and walk alongside his homer. He reached base safely his last three at bats.
Nick Allen, Austin Beck and Jack Meggs joined Gridley as the only Snappers with multi-hit games Thursday night. For Beck, it was his team-leading 22nd multi-hit game of the season and for Allen, it was his fifth multi-hit game in his last nine games.
Snappers hitters left nine baserunners on, even though they outhit the Chiefs 10-9.
Chiefs right fielder Matt Fiedler ripped his third home run of the season to left field, a solo shot, to give the Chiefs the early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Snappers moved to 13-31 on the season when the opponent scores first.
Logan Farrar walked in his first at bat, which extended his on base streak to 22 consecutive games. His streak began on May 31st and included a 15-game hitting streak that ended on 6/21.
The Snappers have hit at least one extra-base hit in all eight games of the second half.
The Snappers will resume their four-game series on Friday evening with another 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The Snappers starter for Friday will be left-hander Jared Poché (3-5, 4.55). He will be opposed by Chiefs right-hander Paul Balestrieri (3-4, 4.89).
