MOBILE, AL - The Mobile BayBears (25-21) scored 11 runs in the first four innings against the Biloxi Shuckers (28-19) as part of a 12-0 win on Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears posted a crooked number in the second inning to take the lead. With a runner on third and two outs, RHP Luis Ortiz (L, 1-2) dealt home a 3-2 pitch that narrowly missed to Jared Walsh, putting runners on the corners. Zach Gibbons smacked a single into right in the ensuing at bat, scoring the first run of the game. A walk to Riley Unroe loaded the bases, and Luis Rengifo emptied them with a triple to left, putting the BayBears in front 4-0. Ortiz brought home his last pitch of the night to Brennon Lund, who singled to right, scoring Rengifo to make it 5-0. In his return from the disabled list, Ortiz pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, issuing two walks and striking out one.
Biloxi threatened to grab runs back immediately in the top of the third. Trent Grisham walked and moved to second on a single by Darren Seferina. Dustin Houle then loaded the bases when he reached on an error by Rengifo. Biloxi would not plate a run, though, as Corey Ray popped out to second and Troy Stokes Jr. bounced into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.
RHP Jose Rodriguez (W, 4-4) kept Biloxi off balance after the third, scattering two base runners on a pair of walks and not issuing another hit in six innings of work.
Mobile added three in the bottom of the third on three hits, and tacked on another three in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run home run by Jared Walsh, his first as a member of the BayBears after hitting 13 at Advanced-A Inland Empire. RHP Miguel Sanchez hurled three innings for the Shuckers to carry the staff into the late innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out five.
