For a third straight start, Biloxi Shuckers RHP Dylan File turned in a scoreless effort, blanking the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (54-60, 25-19) over seven innings in a 2-0 Shuckers (67-47, 26-18 2nd Half) win on Monday night at MGM Park. With the win, the Shuckers take a one-game lead in the South Division standing over Jacksonville.
File (W, 8-1) retired the side in order in the first and stranded two on base in the second. The righty dealt a 1-2-3 third and faced just three in the fourth, after Joe Dunand was hit by a pitch but was caught trying to swipe second. The Jumbo Shrimp appeared poised for a rally against the righty in the fifth when Riley Mahan led off with a double, but File struck out Anfernee Seymour and got a double-play lineout from Adrian Neito to close the top of the fifth. The 24-year-old yet again had two runners reach with two outs in the sixth on a fielding error and an intentional walk but induced a weak lineout to end the frame.
After coming out for the seventh, File surrendered a lead-off single to Miller but got three consecutive outs on a fly out and a pair of fielder's choices. The seven scoreless innings extended File's scoreless streak to 19.1 innings as he allowed just three hits and one intentional walk while striking out five.
With outstanding pitching from File, the Shuckers only needed a pair of runs to secure the victory. Biloxi got to LHP Trevor Rogers (L, 0-1) in the bottom of the second with singles from Jake Gatewood and C.J. Hinojosa followed by an RBI double by Alexander Alvarez, putting the Shuckers in front 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Aguilar worked a two-out walk, moved to third on a bouncing single by Alvarez and scored on an RBI fielder's choice from File, his first career RBI.
RHP Jon Olczak (H, 1) tossed a scoreless eighth for Biloxi and RHP Nate Griep (S, 18) secured his league-leading 18th save by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth. The shutout is the 15th of the season for the Shuckers, the most shutouts any pitching staff has accumulated in a single season in franchise history.
Following an off day on Tuesday, the Shuckers begin a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on Wednesday night at 6:00 pm CT at Smokie Stadium. Biloxi is scheduled to send RHP Bowden Francis (5-7, 3.97) to the mound while the Smokies have not named a starter. The game can be heard locally in Biloxi on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/100.9 FM, TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch App.
