CHATTANOOGA, TN - After waiting two and a half hours through a rain delay for first pitch, the Biloxi Shuckers (42-30) scored four runs in the first inning on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts (37-34) on Friday night at AT&T Field. LHP Wade Miley got the start in a rehab start with Biloxi.
Corey Ray started the first inning with a triple, followed by a home run from Troy Stokes Jr., his eleventh of the season and second in as many nights, giving Biloxi a 2-0 lead. Keston Hiura doubled but was cancelled out on a fielder's choice by Jake Gatewood. In the ensuing at bat, Lucas Erceg singled to right off Lookouts starter RHP Omar Bencomo (L, 5-2), plating Gatewood to make it 3-0. Max McDowell capped the scoring for Biloxi, singling in his first Double-A at bat and driving in a run, to stretch the Shuckers lead to 4-0.
Miley worked around three hits in his two innings of work, picking off a runner in the first before allowing a run. The lefty didn't walk a batter and struck out three in his first rehab start with the Shuckers. LHP Kodi Medeiros (W, 5-3) hurled five innings in relief, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while walking two and striking out eight.
The Shuckers exploded for three runs late to put the game out of reach. Erceg doubled in Gatewood after the first baseman walked, and three batters later, McDowell came through with his second hit, bringing home Erceg to make it 6-2. Ray delivered his second hit of the night, a double that scored another run to put the Shuckers up 7-2.
In his first appearance since the All-Star Game, RHP Jon Olczak tossed a perfect eighth inning, striking out two. RHP Jon Perrin made his season debut for the Shuckers, spinning a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off the ballgame.
