The Biloxi Shuckers (26-17) grabbed their second walk-off victory of the season in extra innings on Saturday night against the Chattanooga Lookouts (28-15) with a 3-2 win at MGM Park. The Shuckers scored two runs to counter Chattanooga's one in the tenth frame to claim the win on an error by T.J. White.
Both starters pitched exceptionally well in an effort to keep their squads in the game. Shuckers' starter RHP Zach Brown allowed just a single run over 6.2 innings. His lone blemish came in the top of the second, when Chris Paul singled home Zander Wiel. Brown walked one batter and scattered eight hits on a night where he fired a career-high 109 pitches.
The Shuckers tied the game at one in the fourth against starter RHP Omar Bencomo. Troy Stokes Jr. roped a double down the left field line to plate Trent Grisham. Bencomo surrendered just five hits over seven innings while tacking on six strikeouts.
The bullpen proved useful for both sides as well. RHP Cody Stashak kept the Shuckers off the board with a perfect eighth and ninth. RHP Jon Olczak relieved Brown in the seventh and stranded a pair of baserunners in a 1-1 game. Olczak then shut down the Lookouts over the next two frames to send the game to extras.
The Shuckers' righty came out for the top of the tenth. After a passed ball sent bonus runner Brian Navarreto to third, Olczak struck out White, but Tanner English doubled to the left field corner to give Chattanooga a 2-1 lead. LHP Nick Ramirez (W, 5-0) entered and walked James Ramsey after English stole third. With runners at the corners, Ramirez struck out Brent Rooker, and got Nick Gordon to bounce out to first to limit the damage.
In the bottom of the tenth, the Shuckers went to work against LHP Tyler Jay (L, 1-1). Bonus runner Corey Ray moved to third when Jake Gatewood smacked a single that ricocheted off Jay's leg to put runners at the corners. Jake Hager then whacked the first pitch to right center to tie the game. With no outs recorded in the inning, Lucas Erceg attempted to bunt the runners over to second and third. His perfectly placed bunt trickled down the third base line. White fielded, and his throw to first sailed wide of Wiel, allowing Gatewood to come home and score the winning run.
Biloxi looks to follow up their win on a Military Salute Sunday presented by Keesler Federal Credit Union at 2:05 PM CT with RHP Adrian Houser (0-1, 5.16) dueling RHP Randy LeBlanc (6-1, 2.14).
