Carpio Makes Instant Impact as Ponies Beat Thunder

Ponies Split Four-Game Series in Trenton, Back in First in Division

Trenton, NJ - Luis Carpio joined the Binghamton Rumble Ponies this morning, and this afternoon was a driving force in the Ponies 7-1 win over the Trenton Thunder at ARM & HAMMER Park. Carpio finished 2-3, with three runs scored, and a two-run homer in the seventh. That two-out home run extended the visitors lead from 2-1 to 4-1 as they split the four-game set. With the win, Binghamton (23-15) now retakes the half-game lead on Trenton (23-16) for first in the Eastern League. 

Mets lefty Jason Vargas made the rehab start for the Ponies and went 4+ innings, allowing just 1 run, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. It was the first rehab start by a Mets player for the Ponies this year. Adonis Uceta pitched three perfect innings of relief and earned his first win of the year (1-2). Jason Krizan also hit a solo homer in the 8th, his first of the season. Krizan finished 2-4 with 2 RBI with while Toffey added two hits and two hits as well. 

In a battle of the bullpen's, Binghamton's was superior, with five scoreless frames of relief, while Trenton's relievers allowed five runs over three and a third innings. Over the past two games, the Ponies have pitched 7 scoreless innings of relief, and handed Trenton just their third and fourth losses at home all year. The Ponies improve to 16-7 on the road. 

The Ponies seven-game road trip continues tomorrow night in Bowie as the Rumble Ponies open up a three-game series against the Bowie Baysox. First pitch is at 6:35 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show getting underway at 6:20. 

POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies 7, 8, and 9 hitters (Kevin Kaczmarski, Anibal Sanchez, and Jason Krizan) were a combined 5-11 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB, and a run scored…The Ponies are now 12-0 when leading after seven innings, and 13-0 when leading after eight.
