June 15, 2012

The Binghamton Mets (30-32) continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Altoona Curve (29-35). The set versus the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates starts tonight at 7:05 PM at NYSEG Stadium.

B-Mets Previous Series (v Reading, 1-2): The B-Mets dropped two of three games against the Reading Phillies in a compacted series to start their homestand. A rainout on Tuesday forced the teams to play three games in a 20-hour span. The B-Mets were swept in a doubleheader on Wednesday, falling in game one by a 3-1 score before losing the nightcap 1-0. Binghamton salvaged the series with an eleven-hit attack on Thursday, earning an 8-5 victory.

Altoona Previous Series (v Trenton, 1-2): A rainout on Tuesday also forced the Curve to play three games in two days against the Trenton Thunder. They dropped the first two games of the series, extending their losing streak to five games, before winning the finale. Altoona was outscored by ten runs in the double dip in Wednesday, falling 10-2 in the opener before getting shutout in the nightcap 2-0. The Curve trailed by five heading into the ninth on Thursday and managed to avoid the sweep by scoring six runs, earning a 7-6 victory. Jarek Cunningham ripped a two-out, two-run double to give the Curve the walk-off win.

B-Mets Briefing: Binghamton snapped a three-game losing streak with their win over Reading on Thursday. They trail the Trenton Thunder by six games, sitting in fourth in the Eastern Division, a spot they have held since May 2. They have put together a .263 team batting average, tied for the second-best in the league. Their pitching staff ERA of 3.71 is eighth in the league.

Altoona Briefing: Since compiling a seven-game winning streak in the middle of May, the Curve have gone 9-13. They sit last in the Western Division, trailing the Akron Aeros by a 13.0 games. Their .245 team batting average is the third-worst in the Eastern League and they have hit just 23 homers, the fewest of any team. Their pitching staff has compiled a 3.93 ERA, the ninth-best in the league.

B-Mets Against Altoona (2011: 4-6): The B-Mets welcome in the Altoona Curve for their first of two visits to the Southern Tier. The Curve will play at NYSEG Stadium for two of their next three weekends. The clubs match up for three series, spanning ten games. Binghamton went 4-6 versus the Curve last year, including a 3-4 mark at home.
