A rough start was too much to overcome as the Birmingham Barons (56-62) suffered a 7-3 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits (66-53) on Sunday night at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. The loss is the Barons' 12th in their last 15 games.

  • Turning Point: A one-run game in the fourth quickly turned sour for Birmingham starter Bernardo Flores (L, 2-4). Nick Solak began the inning with a solo homer to left. After two fly outs, David Rodríguez hit a solo homer of his own, giving the Biscuits their third homer of the game to take a 4-1 lead.
  • Facts And Figures: On the mound, Flores gave up four earned runs on six hits, including three homers, with one strikeout over 3.2 innings before leaving with the trainer shortly following Rodriguez's homer in the fourth. Matt Foster was sharp in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless frames to keep the game close. But the Biscuits put the game out of reach with three two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh against Brandon Brennan to increase their lead to 7-3.
  • Moments That Mattered: The Barons got off on the right foot against Montgomery starter J.D. Martin as they scored a run without a hit, but they left the bases loaded with only a 1-0 lead. Down 4-1 in the fifth, Birmingham inched closer on Alex Call's bases-loaded walk and Danny Mendick's RBI fielder's choice to make it a one-run game. But Mitch Roman grounded out to strand the tying run on second base, ending the Barons best chance at a comeback.
  • By The Numbers: The Barons couldn't find the clutch hit they were looking for all night, going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position to strand 11 men on base. Jameson Fisher and Luis Basabe each recorded two hits in the loss while Mendick drove in two runs and Call drew three walks and drove in the other run.
  • Up Next: The Barons return home to begin a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday night. Tanner Banks (2-4, 3.25) is set to start for the Barons against Tennessee's Matt Swarmer (3-3, 3.52). Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
