Wilmington, DE- The Wilmington Blue Rocks have unveiled their 2014 regular season schedule. The 140-game slate is highlighted by 70 home games and the 2014 California League/Carolina League All-Star Game.
The All-Star festivities begin on Monday, June 16 with a special hitting challenge and will continue on Tuesday, June 17 with the All-Star Game itself. In 2002, when the Blue Rocks last hosted the Advanced-A mid-summer classic, the game ended in a 3-3 tie after 10 innings. Future Big Leaguers Rocco Baldelli and Josh Hamilton were named All-Star players that season. In the last half-decade alone, the game has featured notable players such as Buster Posey, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Jackie Bradley, Jr.
Wilmington's 2014 season will begin on the road with a four-game series at Winston-Salem. Opening Day is slated for Thursday, April 3. It marks the first time the Rocks have not started their season in Myrtle Beach since 2008, and the first time the Opening Day opponent has been anyone other than the Pelicans in 13 years.
The Rocks open their 22nd season at Frawley Stadium on Tuesday, April 8 against Myrtle Beach. It is the first of a seven-game homestand which features three contests against the Pelicans and four versus Winston-Salem. Each of Wilmington's first four homestands will be seven games in duration, the last of which will wrap up over Memorial Day weekend.
The Blue Rocks play their fewest home games of any month in June when Wilmington hosts just 10 contests at Frawley Stadium. However, the team is in town for three of four weekends during the month of July and then enjoys its most home games of any month in August, when Frawley Stadium will open its gates 18 times. The team wraps up its 2014 campaign with a seven-game homestand, and the final game of the season is slated for Labor Day, Monday, September 1.
Game times for all 2014 home games will be released in October, while a full promotional schedule will be available in February. Individual tickets for the 2014 campaign will go on sale with the Blue Rocks' annual President's Day Ticket Event. Full-season ticket plans at Frawley Stadium are available now, while group packages go on sale November 6.
