Rocks Drop Second Consecutive Game To Winston-Salem

Wilmington, DE - Back in action yesterday after an off day, the Wilmington Blue Rocks dropped their second straight contest by a final of 7-4 to the Winston-Salem Dash. For a day, at least, the Dash figured out how to cool off the red-hot Blue Rocks offense. Wilmington is now 3-3 this spring.

There were few offensive standouts in yesterday's game for the Blue Crew, but Bubba Starling, who the Kansas City Royals drafted fifth overall in 2011, was one of them. Starling finished the day 1-2, delivering an RBI and flashing his trademark speed on the basepaths with a stolen base. Daniel Rockett, who hit .310 with 11 home runs last season for the Idaho Falls Chukars, left the yard with a long home run during a 1-2 performance of his own.

On the mound, Tripp Davis tossed two scoreless frames and allowed just one hit. Davis walked a batter and did not strike anyone out. Crawford Simmons, who was 2-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 14 starts at Low-A Lexington last season, also pitched two innings and let up one run on three hits. Simmons struck out one and did not allow a walk.

At the Major League Level, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas continued to square up the ball in the Royals' 6-3 win over the Reds. Hosmer put together a 2-3 day with a double, a walk, and 2 RBI. Moustakas, who has been Kansas City's hottest hitter during the Cactus League, was 1-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI. The game was called in the sixth inning when former Blue Rock Salvador Perez lined a ball back up the middle that hit Reds' reliever Aroldis Chapman in the face. Chapman had to be taken to the hospital with a broken bone near his left eye. He also suffered a minor concussion.

In Triple-A Omaha's 2-1 loss at Charlotte, Sugar Ray Marimon pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits. Marimon also struck out three and did not walk a batter. Andy Ferguson pitched a scoreless inning and allowed one hit while striking out two.

Several former Blue Rocks made Positive contributions in Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 6-4 loss, as well. Slugger Dennis Raben put together a 1-2 day with a double and 2 RBI. Justin Trapp was a perfect 2-2 with a walk and a run. J.C. Sulbaran gave up three hits and walked one over two scoreless innings. Five of the six outs Sulbaran recorded were strikeouts.
