Rocks Roll Winston-Salem 11-2 For Second Consecutive Win

Surprise, AZ - The Wilmington Blue Rocks won their second straight game Tuesday in an 11-2 blowout of the Winston-Salem Dash. The victory was aided by another dominant offensive performance from the Rocks - their best of the spring - and more solid pitching. Wilmington's spring record is now 5-4-1.

A name Blue Rocks fans are beginning to get very familiar with this spring is Daniel Rockett, who continues to tear the cover off of the ball down in Arizona. Rockett, a slugging outfielder from the University of Texas at San Antonio, went 2-2 yesterday with two doubles and four RBI. Michael Antonio also collected a pair of hits and drove in three in the Blue Crew's win over the Dash.

For the second straight day, a Blue Rocks starting pitcher delivered a stellar outing and worked his way into the fifth inning. Daniel Stumpf, who tossed a no-hitter at Low-A Lexington last season, pitched five innings against Winston-Salem, allowing just two runs. Stumpf also let up five hits and walked one while recording two strikeouts. Aroni Nina followed Stumpf into the game and pitched two perfect innings.

At the Major League level, the Kansas City Royals dropped yesterday's game 9-6 against the Seattle Mariners, but several former Blue Rocks put up solid numbers. Alex Gordon went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBI; he also scored a pair of runs. Salvador Perez racked up a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Wade Davis, who made one appearance last season in Wilmington on a rehab outing, pitched a perfect inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced. Royals' All-Star closer Greg Holland pitched a scoreless inning, as well, allowing one hit.

Triple-A Omaha played at Charlotte Tuesday and won 7-3. Matt Fields yanked a solo home run and walked in that win, while starting pitcher Aaron Brooks pitched four strong innings. Brooks allowed one run on one hit, while walking two and striking out four. Malcolm Culver pitched well, too, throwing a pair of perfect innings. Double-A Northwest Arkansas lost at Birmingham 12-3 without any former Blue Rock notables.
