Fellhauer named August Player of the Month

Outfielder Hit .372 With 14 Runs & .505 On-base Percentage
September 7, 2012

The Southern League today announced that Pensacola Blue Wahoos outfielder Josh Fellhauer is the league's Topps Player of the Month for August. This is the first time a Blue Wahoos player has been honored with the monthly award.

Fellhauer, who last week was named to the league's Postseason All-Star team, compiled a .372 batting average in his 28 games in August to raise his season average from .292 to .311. He tallied 14 runs, six doubles, a homer, 14 RBI and 21 walks over the month. Fellhauer ranked second behind Southern League Batting Champion Omar Luna of Montgomery for the top average in August. Additionally, Fellhauer's 21 walks tied for fourth in the Southern League. The outfielder's .505 on-base percentage in that time frame also ranked second among all Minor Leaguers in August, one point behind Double-A Springfield's INF Mike O'Neill.

The California native finished second in the Southern League's batting title race this season with a .314 average, falling just one point short of Luna. It was the narrowest margin of victory in the batting title race in the last 40 years. Fellhauer led the Wahoos with a .406 on-base percentage, while also tying for first among Blue Wahoos players in doubles (22) and ranking second in runs scored, RBI (41), total bases (142) and walks (54).

Fellhauer represented Pensacola in the Southern League's All-Star game and compiled a .328 average in the second half of the season, good for third-best among Southern Leaguers in his 61 contests. The outfielder participated in 117 of the club's 138 games during the inaugural season.

Fellhauer was a seventh round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2009 out of Cal State-Fullerton. Over his four seasons in professional baseball he has hit .275.
