(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - An unassuming three-run top of the 3rd inning proved to be enough for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to slip past Vancouver 6-2 on Friday night as the Canadians went 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position, striking out 15 times in the loss.
Canadians C Riley Adams (3-for-5), CF Reggie Pruitt (2-for-5) and LF Norberto Obeso (2-for-4) had multi-hit nights on Friday, but Vancouver just couldn't deliver a blow to the Volcanoes that resulted in much offense as Salem-Keizer starter RHP Jason Bahr (3-1) managed the win after going five innings allowing seven hits, striking out seven. The loss fell on the shoulders of Canadians starter RHP Juan Nunez (2-6) as he allowed four earned runs on four hits.
Vancouver introduced 2B Samad Taylor (1-for-4) to the line-up as one of the pieces in the Toronto Blue Jays trade with Cleveland that saw RHP Joe Smith head to Ohio struck out three times in his debut.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 8-8 (.500) through 16 second half games, and 29-25 (.537) overall, remaining just one game back of both Tri-City and Spokane in the North Division.
The Canadians will host Salem-Keizer on Saturday, August 12th at 7:05pm as RHP Dalton Rodriguez (4-4, 4.50) goes opposite RHP Stetson Woods (3-1, 2.43) with the game available on TSN1040 AM starting with the pre-game show at 6:00pm and the first pitch at 7:05pm with Brook Ward handling the radio duties while Rob Fai & Iain Mcletchie call the game on Shaw Television.
