Dash Courier Delivers For Knights

April 7, 2006
It's BAAAAACCCCKKKK!

The Knights "Out of Town" manual scoreboard that was first used in 2005 is back in 2006 and will again be updated throughout the Knights game with scores of other games being played at the same time.

From its location on the lower fence in right field, the new scoreboard will update fans on four Major League and two International League games. Through radio communication between Knights staff and a part-time employee sitting behind the right-field wall, the scores from each game will be updated at the conclusion of each inning manually.

The sponsorship for the scoreboard is a long-time dream come true for Dash Courier owner Bob Carlson.

"I went to several games at Fenway Park as a kid," Carlson said. "I remember the anticipation of waiting for a score from another game, and I wanted to bring that same feeling to the fans at Knights Stadium."

The 10-by-40-feet scoreboard also addresses criticisms from fans and players alike who wanted to know scores of other games being played simultaneously.

The scoreboard will show updates of scores for the Knights' parent club, the Chicago White Sox, as well as the Atlanta Braves and the affiliate of the Knights' opponent each game. Knights' fans will get to select the remaining team each month emailing in their requests or voting at the Guest Relations window at Knights Stadium.

The Major League team receiving the most votes will have its scores posted on the new board for the entire month. Two of the Knights' rival teams in the International League South division will also be updated each night. Other scores from around Major and International Leagues will be updated each night via the PA system.

Director of Broadcasting Matt Swierad believes the scoreboard will add to the excitement already present during home games.

"Having seen the unique scoreboards in Boston, Durham and Syracuse first-hand and the excitement that they can create during the game, I believe this new addition will similarly enhance our fans overall experience and enjoyment during our games here at Knights Stadium."
