Danks Recalled on Thursday After 5-4 Loss to Durham
(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - Jordan Danks, the Charlotte Knights all-time leader in walks and triples, was recalled to the Chicago White Sox today. Danks was officially recalled after Charlotte's 5-4 loss to the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC today. The Knights and Bulls played the finale of their four-game series at 11:05 a.m. earlier today.
Danks takes the place of Chicago outfielder Avisail Garcia, who was placed on the disabled list with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
A native of Austin, Texas, Danks is second all-time in games played (376), at-bats (1,356), hits (359), and runs scored (201). He also ranks third on the Knights all-time franchise list in doubles (77) and fourth on the Knights all-time RBI list with 169.
In six games for the Knights this season, Danks was hitting .182 with one home run and four RBIs. Last season, he hit .279 in 54 games for Charlotte, including six home runs, 28 RBIs, and 35 runs scored. He appeared in 79 games last season for the White Sox and hit .231 with five home runs and 12 RBIs.
Charlotte lost to the Durham Bulls for the second straight day. LHP Eric Surkamp (0-1, 3.60) started for the Knights today and allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits over four innings pitched. Hector Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run for Charlotte in the loss.
Durham starter Matt Andriese (1-1, 5.40) earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. He walked two and struck-out eight.
The Knights now return home for their much anticipated home opener on Friday. The inaugural season at BB&T Ballpark kicks-off with a party in Romare Bearden Park at noon on Friday, April 11. Friday's party features the introduction of the 2014 Charlotte Knights to the city of Charlotte. This free event at Romare Bearden Park features an autograph session with the team at 12:30 p.m. and there will be stilt walkers, face painters, jugglers, strolling magicians, members of the Carolina Renaissance Faire, and music from Mo' Money, Coconut Groove, and 20 Ride. The Budweiser Clydesdales will also be on hand for the day's festivities and there will be art tents for kids with Discovery Place and the Gantt Museum represented. BB&T Ballpark gates open at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch of the team's first game in Uptown Charlotte is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Charlotte Knights legend Jim Thome will throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Friday.
