(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte Knights outfielder Eloy Jiménez, who is ranked as the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by Baseball America and MLB.com, has been named as the International League's Batter of the Week for the period of July 16-July 22, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. on July 23.

Jiménez, 21, hit .429 (12-for-28) with six runs scored, six extra-base hits, 24 total bases, three doubles, three home runs, and six RBIs over seven games played (six starts). On Friday, July 20, Jiménez had his first of two consecutive three-hit games. He went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two home runs, and three RBIs against the Indianapolis Indians in front of a sell-out crowd of 10,731 fans at BB&T Ballpark. A night later, he went 3-for-4 with a double. On Sunday, he recorded a ninth-inning, pinch-hit single in his only at-bat of the day.

In 20 games played with the Knights this season, Jiménez is batting .351 (26-for-74) with 11 runs scored, five doubles, five home runs, and 10 RBIs.

A native of Santo Domingo, DR, Jiménez compiled a .317 (65-for-205) batting average with 36 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, and 42 RBIs over 53 with the Double-A Birmingham Barons earlier this season. At the time of his promotion to Charlotte on June 21, he ranked second in the Southern League in batting average, tied for fifth in home runs, tied for second in RBIs, and first in slugging percentage (.556). He represented the Barons at the 2018 Southern League All-Star Game.

Jiménez was acquired by the White Sox from the Chicago Cubs on July 13, 2017 as part of the trade that sent LHP José Quintana to the Cubs. Originally signed as a free agent by the Cubs on August 1, 2013, he entered the 2018 season ranked by MLB.com as the number four overall prospect in all of baseball.
