Knights Name Viola PR/Media Relations Director
Fort Mill, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are pleased to announce the hiring of Tommy Viola as the club’s new Director of PR/Media Relations.
A native of Brooklyn, NY, Viola comes to the Knights from the Reading Phillies, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, where he served as the team’s PR/Media Relations Director for the past two seasons (2010-11). Among some of his roles during his tenure in Baseballtown, Viola maintained the club’s official website - which was named best website in MiLB by Baseball Digest, handled all of the team’s media requests, and expanded the club’s social media efforts.
“We are very pleased to add Tommy to our staff,” said Knights Vice President/General Manager Dan Rajkowski. “We look forward to having him strengthen our media presence in Charlotte for 2012 and beyond.”
Viola, a 2003 graduate of Penn State University, spent four seasons (2008-2011) in the Phillies organization.
From 2008-2009, the 31-year-old was the Media Relations Assistant for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies. He also handled studio duties on the IronPigs Radio Network, producing pre- and post-game radio coverage. Viola initially broke-in to Minor League Baseball in 2004 as a photography intern with the Altoona Curve.“I feel so privileged and honored to be able to join such a first-class organization like the Charlotte Knights,” said Viola. “I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to make the most of this remarkable opportunity.”
