Early Home Runs and Solid Pitching Lead Knights to Win

FORT MILL, S.C.  - The Charlotte Knights came out strong in the first two innings to get all of the runs they needed to top the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 6-3 at Knights Stadium.  The win snaps the Knights' six-game losing streak as they took the first game in their series against the Yankees.

The Knights established an early lead in the game with an RBI single from infielder Jim Gallagher in the first inning.  In the second inning, infielder Gookie Dawkins hit a solo home run and catcher Tyler Flowers hit a three run homer.  For Dawkins it was his team leading fifth homer of the season.

Knights starting pitcher Brandon Hynick earned his first win of the season.  Hynick pitched 5.1 innings and allowed all three Yankees runs.  Three Knights relievers closed things out with Brian Bruney picking up his 3rd save of the season.  Both Bruney and fellow reliever Josh Kinney have not allowed a run this season.

The Knights and Yankees conclude their series tomorrow night at 7:15 PM.  Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is scheduled to make a Major League rehab start for the Knights tomorrow night.  The Yankees will counter with RHP Andrew Brackman.
