Red Wings Put Knights Away with Ten-Run Inning

ROCHESTER, NY – The Charlotte Knights suffered their largest loss of the season on Wednesday night when they fell to the Rochester Red Wings by a final score of 13-1. The 12-run loss was a product of Rochester’s ten-run eighth inning that blew was what a close game wide open.

The two teams were knotted up 1-1 at the end of the fifth inning. Charlotte received an excellent starting pitching performance from Drew Thorpe in his first appearance as a Knight. Thorpe worked five innings, scattered three hits, and struck out six in a no-decision.

Offensively, the Knights struggled to sustain any momentum against a plethora of Red Wings pitchers. Rochester used seven different arms with none pitching more than two frames.

Charlotte’s lone run came on Korey Lee’s RBI single in the top of the third inning – one of three hits the Knights recorded in the game.

The Red Wings rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before they put the game away in the eighth.

Prior to Wednesday, Charlotte’s most lopsided loss was a nine-run defeat suffered at the hands of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp back on May 30th. Despite the final result, the Knights still lead the International League in overall run differential by 13 runs. The Red Wings rank second in that category.

Game Three of the series is a 1:05pm afternoon tilt on Thursday. Each team has claimed one win through the first two contests.
