CLEARWATER, FL – The Clearwater Threshers (61-41, 21-15) picked up their only run in the opening inning of a 6-1 defeat to the Tampa Tarpons (60-43, 25-12) on Wednesday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look to take back the lead when they return for a rematch against Tampa on Thursday.

Jonathan Hogart started the scoring on the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning, drilling a solo home run into the left field bullpen to make it 1-0 Threshers. Tampa plated a run in the second and third innings to take over the lead by one run. They tripled their lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run and hit another two-run blast in the sixth to boost their advantage to five runs. Neither team was able to score in the final three innings, and the Threshers dropped their first game of the series in a 6-1 defeat against Tampa.

Brad Pacheco (6-6) surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work, walking one and striking out four to take the loss. Giussepe Velásquez gave up two runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Tyler Bowen retired all three batters he faced in the eighth inning. Wilmer Blanco pitched the ninth inning scoreless without allowing a run or a hit.
