BOX SCORE:

BRADENTON, FL – A Troy Schreffler leadoff homer in the sixth sparked five unanswered runs for the Clearwater Threshers (48-22, 4-1) as they scored in three of the final four frames in a 5-1 victory over the Bradenton Marauders (38-32, 3-2) on Thursday evening at LECOM Park. The Threshers look to secure their third-straight win as they return to Bradenton on Friday night.

Bradenton scored in the first for the second straight night and held the Threshers without a hit until the sixth. On a 2-0 count, Schreffler got the Threshers' first hit of the day, a game-tying solo home run to the opposite field off Marauders reliever Carlos Lomeli. Justin Crawford worked a one-out walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. Otto Kemp beat out an infield hit to score Crawford from third and give the Threshers their first lead at 2-1.

Ryan Leitch was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh inning and advanced to second on a single by Schreffler. Rosario plated Leitch with a double to right, moving Schreffler to third with two outs in the frame. After Julian Bosnic came in to replace Lomeli, he threw a wild pitch to Crawford that allowed Schreffler to score from third, extending the Threshers' lead to 4-1.

Jordan Viars led off the ninth with a double off newly entered Bradenton reliever Joshua Loeschorn. He was replaced by Emaarion Boyd as a pinch runner. Matt Alifano grounded a ball to short, and Jesus Castillo threw over the head of the third baseman, marking Boyd safe at third and advancing Alifano to second on the error. Rosario grounded out to third but drove in Boyd to give the Threshers a 5-1 lead.

After a leadoff walk, Andrew Walling retired the final three batters of the game to earn a six-out save and seal a 5-1 victory for the Threshers.
