AMARILLO - For the second consecutive night, Jason Schiavone slugged two home runs but the Sod Poodles offense could not be contained as Amarillo emerged with a 10-9 triumph Wednesday night at Hodgetown.

The Sod Poodles produced 17 hits on the night, the most surrendered by Corpus Christi in 2026. And despite issuing 13 walks, Amarillo improved to 2-0 on the series, running its winning streak to five games.

Schiavone, who went deep in his final two plate appearances Tuesday, swatted a two-run salvo in the first, a drive that cleared the 411 marker and 12-foot wall in center field. The James Madison Duke then singled in the third before notching his 29th homer of the year in the fourth, two-out poke down the right-field line.

Schiavone has hit six home runs over his last seven games.

Trevor Austin, teaming with Schiavone on back-to-back home runs for the second time this year, launched a two-run long ball to straightaway center in the fourth. Austin leads the Hooks with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Justin Thomas Jr. and Hector Salas both reached base four times for Corpus Christi. Will Bush went 2-for-4 with a walk and two-run double.

Walker Janek was 0-for-4 with a free pass, snapping his hitting streak at nine games.

Amarillo added on to its 6-5 lead with a four-spot in the seventh. The Hooks countered with a four-run eighth and had the go-ahead runs on in the ninth before Carlos Rey nailed down his sixth save.

Andrew Marrero, the last of six pitchers used by Corpus Christi, was the lone Hooks arm to escape unscathed, stranding four between the seventh and eighth.
