DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - 3B Bryant Flete hammered a solo home run in the seventh and added a double in the ninth, but the Charlotte Stone Crabs used a seven-run fifth inning to defeat the Daytona Tortugas, 13-2, in front of 1,195 fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Scoreless through four frames, the Stone Crabs (39-15, 74-46) erupted in a massive way in the fifth. Following a single by LF Michael Smith (1-5, R) and a double from 1B-2B Zach Rutherford (1-5, R, 2B, SO) to start the frame, CF Garrett Whitley (3-4, 2 R, 3B, 2 RBI, BB, SO) clocked a two-run triple to right-center, putting Charlotte ahead, 2-0. C Zac Law (2-4, 2 R, RBI, BB) proceeded to smash a run-producing single to make it a 3-0 contest.
After a hit-by-pitch and a pair of walks forced in a fourth tally, RF Moisés Gómez (1-5, RBI) ripped a base-hit to left with the bases still loaded. Three runs crossed the dish on the play - the latter scoring on a throwing error - giving the Stone Crabs a 7-0 edge.
Charlotte's offense would add three more in the seventh and eighth, respectively. DH Ronaldo Hernández (2-4, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI, BB) wallopped a three-run home run to left - his eighth - in the seventh to extend the visitor's advantage to 10-0. The Stone Crabs tallied three on an RBI ground-rule double from PH-1B Joey Roach (1-1, R, 2B, RBI), a run-scoring single to right from Hernández, and a wild pitch.
Daytona was able to break up the shutout in the seventh, as Flete (2-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, RBI) rifled the first pitch of the inning for a solo home run to right-center. The 26-year-old's third dinger of the year made it a 10-1 contest, at the time. In the game's final frame, Flete doubled to left, scooted to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by C Hendrik Clementina (1-4, RBI).
LHP Cristopher Sánchez (5.0 IP, H, 5 SO) was nearly untouchable for Charlotte. The 22-year-old yielded just an infield single to RF Andy Sugilio (1-4) in the second inning en route to his first Florida State League win.
Daytona's RHP Austin Orewiler (4.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, SO) cruised through four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. The former Rice Owl was saddled with his ninth defeat of the campaign.
