DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Two Tortugas errors in the third inning led to the first three Blue Jay runs of their 9-3 win at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Sunday evening.
Following a Brantley Bell error to start the third, LHP Ty Boyles walked Josh Palacios to put runners on first and second with one out. Then, Logan Warmoth and Bradley Jones hit back-to-back doubles to go up 3-0.
Dunedin added a single tally in the fourth and the fifth to go up 5-0. First, in the fourth, Nash Knight scored on a double play ground out. An inning later, Eduard Pinto drove in Riley Adams with a single.
Daytona would get on the board in the fifth. With runners on the corners and one out, Bell grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Bruce Yari from third.
Daytona would get back on the board an inning later. With two outs, Taylor Trammell worked a walk and scored on a Tyler Stephenson double.
But in the top of the seventh, the Blue Jays would blow the game open against RHP Nick Howard. Adams came in to score on a Pinto fielder's choice ground out, going up 6-2. Then, Knight drove in Pinto from second with a single, and scored on a John La Prise double.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Ibandel Isabel hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 8-3.
But Dunedin would get the run back in the next half inning, when Knight drove in Pinto with a single to make it 9-3.
LHP Taylor Saucedo (3-2) earned the win, giving up three runs and six hits in seven innings, while striking out four and walking two. Boyles (2-3) took the loss, after allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
The Tortugas will begin a three game series in Jupiter on Monday with RHP Tony Santillan (3-2, 2.05 ERA) on the mound.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
NOTES: Daytona has allowed their opponents to score first in 9 of the last 10 games… TJ Friedl has now reached base in 25 straight home games, the longest active streak in the FSL… Ibandel Isabel had the Tortugas only multi-hit game, recording a double and home run… This is just the second series loss at The Jack for the Tortugas this year… Daytona is now 1-12 when trailing after six innings and 0-10 when trailing after eight… Daytona has lost three straight rubber matches.
