JUPITER, FL - John Silviano hit a game-winning three run home in the bottom of the eighth for Jupiter's 4-1 win over the Daytona Tortugas Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
RHP Tony Santillan had allowed just one run through the first seven innings, before Anfernee Seymour reached with a one-out bunt single in the eighth. The next batter, Brian Miller, slapped a base hit into left field, setting the stage for Silviano, who drilled his sixth home run of the year to right field. It was his second homer against Santillan this month.
The only other blemish for Santillan came in the third inning, when Seymour tied the game at one with a two-out RBI single to center.
Daytona got on the board in the first inning with a two-out RBI single to left field off the bat of Tyler Stephenson against Jupiter starter RHP Sam Perez. The Tortugas would leave six on-base the rest of the way, and fail to get a runner past second.
Santillan (3-3) lost his third straight decision, allowing four runs and eight hits in 7 2/3 innings, his second longest start of the year. RHP Alejandro Mateo (2-0) earned the win, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, while striking out five. RHP Chad Smith notched his first save, working a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Tortugas will try to even the series Tuesday morning in Jupiter, when LHP Scott Moss (3-2, 6.05) takes the hill in Daytona's latest Education Day game.
First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 AM, with coverage beginning at 10:15 AM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
