Fort Myers, FL – The Mighty Mussels used a five-run fifth inning to race away from the Blue Jays, eventually taking a 12-2 win on Saturday night at Lee Health Sports Complex. With the defeat, Fort Myers clinched a series victory over Dunedin.

A long day for the Blue Jays pitching staff began in the first, as the Mussels picked up an unearned run against Dunedin starter Nolan Perry. However, the most damage came via the pitch count, as Perry delivered 37 pitches in the inning, forcing the Jays to go to the bullpen in the second.

Dunedin drew even with a Cristian Feliz solo home run in the third inning, his second of the week and team-leading sixth this season.

After two scoreless innings from Aaron Munson, Fort Myers scored twice against Bo Bonds in the fourth inning to retake the lead, 3-1.

The Mussels busted the game open in the fifth, scoring five runs on two hits and four errors against Jays hurler Jordan Powell, which pushed the deficit to 8-1.

Fort Myers’ lead ballooned to 10-1 in the seventh before Dunedin scored again in the eighth on an RBI fielders’ choice from Manuel Beltre. The Mussels got that run back, and an additional run of insurance, in the eighth to make it 12-2.

The Jays will wrap up the set in Fort Myers tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for noon. Dunedin returns to TD Ballpark on Tuesday night for the first game of a six-game series with Jupiter at 6:30.
