The Durham Bulls have launched their inaugural season of Wool E.'s Reading Club, in partnership with Amica Insurance.
Available to kids throughout the Triangle, the mission of the program is not only to reward students for making time to read, but also to improve overall literacy in the Triangle. While sports promote health and physical activity through exercise, reading develops the brain, a muscle that also needs exercise. Reading stimulates the mind and allows students to grow in their language skills. This helps them to better listen and engage with peers, educators and the school curriculum.
Our goal is to empower 5,000 K-5 Triangle students to read at least 40,000 hours in 2020. Participants can download a custom Wool E.'s Reading Club bookmark and be rewarded with a Bulls branded prize every time they reach a new base by completing the assigned segment of reading.
Students who submit a completed bookmark, equal to 500 minutes of reading, will receive a complimentary ticket to a Durham Bulls game thanks to Amica Insurance. 500 minutes of reading equals just 15 minutes per day for 33 days.
Participants can download the Wool E.'s Reading Club bookmark by clicking here.
The Student Tracking Sheet to be filled out can be downloaded by clicking here.
Once your bookmark has been completed, email a picture of the filled out bookmark and tracking sheet to [email protected]. Upon verification, you will receive a coupon code for one free ticket. Completed bookmarks may be redeemed for a Terrace View ticket at Monday-Thursday games, and for an Outfield Reserved Ticket for Friday and Saturday games.
Kids can also bring their completed bookmark to the park to redeem their First Base, Second Base, and Third Base prizes.
