DURHAM, NC - A two-run deficit was too much for the Durham Bulls to overcome Sunday evening at the DBAP, as they fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox 4-2 to snap the team's bid at a three-game sweep.
Cole Sturgeon opened the scoring for the PawSox with a solo home run in the first inning, giving Pawtucket a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls responded in the second, with a leadoff triple by Jason Coats, who then scored on a ground out by Jeremy Hazelbaker tying the game 1-1.
In the visitor's half of the fifth, Mike Miller led off with a single and he scored on a bunt single by Tzu-Wei Lin. With one out in the frame Rusney Castillo doubled in Lin, his second double of the day and third hit, stretching the deficit to 3-1.
The home team cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh after Adam Moore led off the inning with a walk, advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on a fielder's choice ground out by Kean Wong.
Sturgeon extended the PawSox lead to 4-2 with a solo home run, his second of the evening, in the top of the ninth.
Forrest Snow (L, 2-4) dropped his third straight decision after allowing two runs on three hits over 3.0 innings out of the bullpen.
The Bulls hit the road on Tuesday to face the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field for the first of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
