DURHAM, NC -A bases-loaded walk tied the ballgame in the bottom of the 10th inning, before Nick Ciuffo's sacrifice fly gave the Durham Bulls a 4-3 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in front of 10,086 fans Friday night at the DBAP.
The Bulls (64-50) fell behind 3-2 in the top of the 10th inning on a sacrifice bunt and an error to score the tie-breaking run. In the bottom of the 10th, Jason Coats began the inning at second base and Nate Lowe singled to move him to third base. Brandon Snyder walked to load the bases, and Rob Refsnyder walked to tie the game 3-3. Ciuffo then lifted a fly ball to left and Ryan McBroom misplayed it, allowing Lowe to score and give the Bulls a their fourth walk-off victory of the season.
Andrew Velazquez led off with his 11th home run of the season in the first inning, putting Durham in front 1-0. The RailRiders pulled even with a home run by Giovanny Urshela in the visitor's third.
Then in the fourth, McBroom moved the RailRiders (60-55) in front 2-1 with his 10th a home run of the season. The home team responded in the seventh pulling the game even 2-2 with an RBI double from Lowe after Velazquez reached on an infield single.
Brandon Snyder went 4-for-4 with his 20th double of the season. Velazquez recorded three hits and one RBI along with one run scored, and Lowe finished his night 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Ian Gibaut (W, 4-2) earned his fourth win of the season after allowing one run on one hit and fanning two.
The Bulls face the RailRiders for the second game of a three-game series Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Zach Lee (3-3, 3.70) is scheduled to start for Durham opposite Chance Adams (3-5, 4.50) for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
