Snell, Franklin Lead Bulls Past Gwinnett, 5-3
Lawrenceville, GA --- Blake Snell earned his first Triple-A win, aided by Nick Franklin's pair of RBI-doubles as Durham defeated Gwinnett 5-3 on Wednesday night at Coolray Field.
Snell (W, 1-1) worked five innings, fanning seven and allowing just an infield single during his second Triple-A start to earn the victory, his first with Durham (52-53) and his 10th combined of the season.
Meanwhile, Mikie Mahtook doubled home Nick Franklin in the second inning to put the Bulls ahead 1-0, with Franklin chipping in two run-producing doubles, one down the right field line in the fourth and the other a deep, opposite-field double to left in the eighth.
Enny Romero worked 2 2/3 innings in relief, with Jhan Marinez and Kirby Yates (S, 5) combining for the final four outs of the game.
Mahtook finished 2-4 with a double, with Richie Shaffer also going 2-4 with two runs scored.
The Bulls finished their longest road trip of the season 3-8 and return to the DBAP on Friday embarking on a 10-game homestand with the first of three against Gwinnett. Dylan Floro (9-9, 4.47) will oppose Gwinnett's (53-51) Kanekoa Texeira (2-3, 3.43) at 7:05 PM ET.
