DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls gave up four runs in the eighth inning and ultimately suffered a 7-2 defeat against the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday night at the DBAP. Tyler Herb (4-3) picked up the win for the Tides, while Arturo Reyes (3-2) suffered the loss for the Bulls.
Mac James got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning, on a solo home run that hit the Snorting Bull in left field to take a 1-0 lead. Durham couldn't maintain the advantage though, allowing a three-run home run to former Bull Joey Rickard to make it 3-1 Tides in the fourth.
The Bulls got a run back from an unlikely source, when Emilio Bonifácio hit a solo home run to make it 3-2. For Bonifacio, it was his first home run of the season and his first home run in the minors since August 27th, 2017.
However, the Tides increased the lead in the eighth inning, thanks to an RBI single by Mark Trumbo to make it 4-2. Rickard tallied his fourth RBI of the day on an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2, and Cedric Mullins put the game away with a two-RBI single to make it 7-2.
The Bulls head out to begin a four-game road trip against the Gwinnett Stripers on Thursday in Georgia. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Coolray Field.
