The El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Sacramento River Cats 8-5 Thursday night at Sutter Health Park for their third straight win.
The Chihuahuas trailed 3-2 entering the fifth inning and scored five runs to go ahead. Second baseman Nate Mondou had a bases loaded walk in the rally to give him seven RBIs and a .625 on-base percentage in eight bases loaded plate appearances this season. Third baseman Mike Brosseau followed Mondou with a grand slam over the left field fence. It was Brosseau’s fifth home run of the season and El Paso’s second grand slam. Tim Locastro hit the other grand slam on April 25, also against Sacramento.
First baseman Trenton Brooks went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk and has reached base nine times in the first three games of the series. Left fielder Tirso Ornelas went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk and has six extra-base hits in the first three games of the series. Former Chihuahua Daniel Johnson hit a three-run home run for the River Cats in the bottom of the third.
