The El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Sacramento River Cats 9-8 Friday night to get their fourth win in their last five games.
Chihuahuas leadoff hitter Tim Locastro hit a grand slam inside the right field pole the bottom of the third inning. It was the Chihuahuas’ first grand slam since Tirso Ornelas hit one in Round Rock on June 28, 2024, and it was the first Chihuahuas’ grand slam at home since Jantzen Witte’s on June 24, 2023 against Tacoma. Sacramento’s Hunter Bishop also hit a grand slam as part of the River Cats’ seven-run comeback to tie the game 7-7.
The Chihuahuas’ final lead came on a go-ahead RBI double by Yonathan Perlaza in the bottom of the seventh inning. Perlaza went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs. He became the first Chihuahua since Daniel Johnson on September 24, 2023 to hit three doubles in one game and it extended Perlaza’s career-high hitting streak to 17 games. Reiss Knehr picked up his fourth save of the season for El Paso, which is the second-most in the Pacific Coast League.
