McCoy’s Three Hits Not Enough in 10-3 Loss to Dash

Winston-Salem, North Carolina – Ryan McCoy registered a three-hit performance, adding his 60th RBI in a 10-3 Bowling Green Hot Rods (78-45, 31-27) loss to the Winston-Salem Dash (69-55, 31-27) on Saturday at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Hot Rods broke the ice with one run in the top of the first inning against Dash starter Grant Umberger. Nathan Flewelling soared a one-out double and touched home on a Ryan Cermak single, giving Bowling Green the lead.

Winston-Salem struck back with three runs in the bottom of the third inning against starting pitcher Trevor Harrison. RBI singles from Ely Brown and Kyle Lodise gave the Dash a 3-1 edge.

The hosts tagged two more runs against Harrison in the bottom of the fourth. James Taussig and Wes Kath earned walks, Rylan Galvan was plunked to load the bases. A two-run single by Brown made it 5-1.

The Dash added two runs off reliever Cade Citelli in the bottom of the fifth. Back-to-back home runs from Jeral Perez and James Taussig boosted the Winston-Salem advantage to 7-1.

Bowling Green got back on the board with one run in the top of the sixth against Umberger. Cermak was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and moved to third on a Narciso Polanco base hit. McCoy thumped a single to right field to score Cermak, reducing the lead to 7-2.

Winston-Salem tacked on one run against Citelli in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brown singled, stole second, and crossed home on a George Wolkow base knock for an 8-2 Dash advantage.

The Dash plated two more runs in the bottom of the seventh frame against Mason Nichols. Nick McLain walked, Wes Kath doubled, and Brown plated both with a two-run single, increasing the Winston-Salem margin to 10-2.

The Hot Rods tallied one run in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Max Banks. Cermak reached on a hit by pitch and raced home on a Polanco double to left-center field, making it 10-3 Dash.

Banks finished the game with a scoreless top of the ninth inning to wrap up a 10-3 final score.

Umberger (10-7) earned the win with 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and adding six strikeouts. Harrison (3-2) was charged with the loss, surrendering five runs on two hits, five walks with six strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

The Hot Rods and Dash close their six-game set on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM CT. Bowling Green sends RHP Jose Urbina (4-3, 4.34) to the mound against Winston-Salem RHP Drew McDaniel (2-7, 4.26).
