Dust Devils Halt Frogs’ Winning Streak, 9-8

A five-run top of the eighth solidified Tri-City’s victory

EVERETT, Wash. – After tying the game and briefly claiming a two-run lead, the Everett AquaSox (39-20) fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils (23-37), 9-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tri-City jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the top of the first. The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth; Connor Hoover put the Frogs on the board with an RBI single, driving in Cade Marlowe. After stealing second, Hoover moved to third when Joseph Rosa singled, scoring on a Dust Devils throwing error to tie the game, 2-2.

Livan Soto hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth, reclaiming the lead for the Dust Devils. Tri-City maintained their two-run lead until the bottom of the seventh when Austin Shenton crushed a two-run home run to right field and tied the game, 4-4. Two at-bats later, Marlowe crushed another two-run home run, giving the ‘Sox a two-run lead.

The Dust Devils bounced back in the eighth, scoring five runs off a bases-loaded walk, two RBI doubles and an RBI single. The ‘Sox drove in two additional runs in the bottom of the ninth, ultimately falling 9-8.

WRAPPING IT UP

On the mound, RHP Casey Sadler pitched one complete inning, striking out two batters in his rehab appearance. At the plate, the Frogs registered 12 hits, including four doubles, one triple and two home runs. Shenton led the way, going 3-for-4 with three extra-base hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

LOOKING AHEAD

The AquaSox return to Funko Field on Wednesday, July 14 for game two against the Tri-City Dust Devils. RHP Matt Brash will be on the mound for the Frogs and RHP Zach Linginfelter will start for Tri-City. Every Wednesday home game has Baseball Bingo!
