Emeralds Lead From Start, AquaSox Lose, 7-4

Everett, WA - The Everett AquaSox lost the fourth game of the five-game series against the Eugene Emeralds Sunday afternoon, 7-4. With the Emerald victory, they forced the rubber match in the series. Everett was held to six hits, led by Geoandry Montilla who had half of the team's hits. Northwest League All-Star, Jheyson Caraballo got the nod for the AquaSox and did not look like his usual self, allowing six runs in the 4.2 innings he pitched.

Eugene strung together four runs over the course of the first three innings, Sunday. In the top of the second, Grant Fennell hit Caraballo's pitch off the left field wall, plating Nelson Velazquez, 1-0 Emeralds.
Caraballo continued to struggle in the third inning, walking the first batter he faced, throwing a wild pitch, hitting a batter, and scattering three hits. Andy Weber, Luke Reynolds, and Velazquez all recorded RBI in the inning, 4-0 Eugene. For Velazquez, it was part of a team-leading three-hit afternoon.
Caraballo couldn't get a handle on things in the fifth inning, allowing two more Emeralds runs to score. The right-hander allowed back-to-back-to-back doubles to Eugene's Levi Jordan, Reynolds, and Velazquez. This allowed Eugene to score two more runs, 6-0. That would be all for Caraballo, who would eventually be given the loss. His final line was 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 3 SO. Reliever Jamal Wade would take over on the mound and end the inning with the Emeralds on top, 6-0.
Everett did eventually manage to cut into the six-run deficit, however, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ryan Garcia doubled with one out gone, bringing home Geoandry Montilla who logged a double of his own before Gracia's at-bat. Then, after Garcia advanced to third base on a ground out, a Charlie McConnell single brought home Garcia, 6-2 Eugene.
Eugene bounced right back, though in the top of the sixth, knocking a home run to right-center field off the bat of Fennell.
Eugene wasn't out of the woods just yet though, as Everett's comeback opportunity presented itself in the seventh inning. With no outs on the scoreboard, Everett's Cal Raleigh and Ryne Ogren were both walked. A Montilla single loaded the bases for Garcia. Garcia then bounced an RBI groundout, plating one Frog run, 7-3. Eugene would then opt to bring in Casey Ryan to replace Jose Albertos to face Everett's, Matt Sanders. Sanders didn't let the opportunity slip away though, hitting a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That would be the only runs the AquaSox could muster up in the inning, though, as Eugene escaped with a three-run lead.
With two men on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, Everett had the game-tying run at home plate. It wasn't meant to be, however, as the AquaSox would ground into a double play and lose the contest, 7-4 Emeralds.
Monday the Everett AquaSox will conclude the five-game series against the Eugene Emeralds at 7:05 PM. It will be Half Price Fred Meyer Monday in Everett. Fans can pay half price with a coupon from participating Fred Meyer locations. After the contest, the AquaSox will head out on a six-game road trip, taking on the Spokane Indians and the Tri-City Dust Devils.
