FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 28, 2018) - From the dad constantly annoyed by Urkel to the man who tutored Forrest Gump on the art of shrimpin' to the boy who won the heart of Wendy Peffercorn with the most diabolical plan ever conceived at a public pool, nostalgia won't be lacking in Frisco this season.
If any of those iconic characters ring a bell, you won't want to miss the parade of celebrities joining the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, this season as part of the BIGGEST promotional schedule in baseball history.
What better way than to celebrate First Responders & Community Night presented by Operation Blue Shield on Saturday, June 30 than to salute an actor synonymous with the police force. Reggie VelJohnson is forever tied to Officer Carl Winslow from Family Matters and Sgt. Al Powell from the Die Hard movie franchise. First Responders & Community Night includes a special Meet & Greet with VelJohnson. Fans also have the opportunity to submit names of first responders to be incorporated into the design of that night's jersey (details to come).
While life is often like a box of chocolates, you know exactly what you're going to get on Tribute to Forrest Gump Night. Fans can share their favorite shrimp recipes with Williamson during the public Meet & Greet. Fans legally named "Jenny" can show their IDs at the Riders Box Office to receive one free ticket to the game. And, of course, concession stands will be stocked with a variety of shrimp options, all Bubba approved.
You're killing me, Smalls! On Saturday, June 9, Salute to Sandlot Night welcomes Chauncey Leopardi, who as "Squints," the bespectacled member of the neighborhood baseball crew in The Sandlot, faked drowning at the pool to sneak one in on the prettiest lifeguard around. They wound up married … with nine kids. Sandlot Night features an in-game Leopardi Meet & Greet, our very own team dog Brooks dressed as "The Beast," s'mores at concession stands, a PF Flyers giveaway autographed by Squints, Big League Chew given out as prizes and, fittingly, a Wendy Peffercorn look-a-like on lifeguard duty at the Choctaw Lazy River.
On Saturday, August 18, the Riders get you ready for another school year with Back to School Night featuring Peyton List, who played "Emma Ross" on Disney Channel's Jessie. About the RoughRiders
The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers and play their games at beautiful Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas. The team was founded in 2003 and has finished first among all Double-A franchises in attendance in each of the last 13 seasons (2005-2017). In August 2014, the RoughRiders were purchased by an ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg. Since then, the new ownership group, together with the City of Frisco, has spearheaded numerous major franchise enhancements, investing over $8 million in a wide array of facility upgrades and improvements, including a state-of-the-art HD video board, sound system, Bull Moose Saloon, InTouch Grille, Riders Outpost Team Store and the world's largest water feature in a sports facility, the massive Choctaw Lazy River. These enhancements earned the Riders and the City of Frisco Ballpark Digest's prestigious "Best Ballpark Renovation" award for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). More than 140 former RoughRiders players have gone on to play Major League Baseball, including All-Stars Chris Davis, Adrian Gonzalez, Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz, as well as current Rangers stars Elvis Andrus, Rougned Odor and Nomar Mazara.
